My Mission.

Hello! My name is Amy McCarthy and I am your Texas Nurses Association President-Elect!

I have spent my career listening to nurses and collaborating with them to create environments where innovation and creativity are embedded into all that we do. Environments where wellness is incorporated into the culture and is held as a priority. Leading innovation for me, isn’t about coming up with ideas and having my staff carry them out – it’s about creating a space where people are willing and able to do the hard work of innovative problem solving. It’s about discovering the talents and passions within a team, to create an environment where my staff and patients grow and thrive.

COVID-19 has exposed the reality of burnout and exhaustion of our profession. In order for us to progress as a profession, we must confront this head on and I firmly believe our association has a large role to play in this reformation. Safe staffing, better protections in the work environment and policies that focus on helping nurses recover are essential to moving forward.

Culture change can be hard work - but it is necessary for our profession to progress forward. I am committed to ensuring that all nurses feel represented, have a voice at this table and that together we are working to build an association that is constantly empowering nurses to advance this incredible profession.
