Words of Support

Nursing is and always will be a team sport.

I met Amy many years ago and was impressed by her vision for our shared profession as well as her desire to get things done.  When Amy was elected to serve as Secretary of the Texas Nurses Association Board of Directors, it was clear that she had moved beyond emerging leader, and had stepped into a space where her leadership of and advocacy for nurses were apparent -  a place of pure leadership.  The vision Amy has is informed by every experience she has has a nurse, as well as the experiences of others.  She is a keen listener and takes in all that she learned.  Amy is a person of action, deploying all her skills to generate meaningful change.  Her service on the American Nurses Association Board of Directors has enriched her perspective and given her a new lens on how the Texas Nurses Association has been and continues to be a leader among state nurses associations.  Amy possesses a limitless energy to further build on the successes we have had in Texas.  Dr. Amy McCarthy is committed to Texas nurses and those we attend and will serve us well as our next President of the Texas Nurses Association.

Texas Nurses Association, President (2016-2020)

When I first met Amy in 2017, two words came to mind: enthusiastic and energetic. And Amy did not disappoint! It quickly became clear that Amy would bring a vibrant, robust personality to the TNA Board. These same characteristics have served Amy well during her term as an ANA board member. Amy will combine her energy, passion, and experiences to develop a vision for Texas nurses that will enable us to address the challenges we face as a profession in Texas!

Texas Nurses Association, Treasurer (2017-2021)

I have known and worked in various roles with Dr. Amy McCarthy for over 5 years. She has served as a primary mentor as I transitioned into the workforce as a new graduate nurse and progressed to my current role as a Clinical Assistant Professor. Amy is a phenomenal leader and is kind-hearted, person-centered, and is THE choice for TNA President. Her ability to balance each of her responsibilities with her career goals is inspirational. She is an advocate for others to succeed and will help anyone, from any level reach their goals. She embodies the ideal nurse leader and continues to show me each day what is possible in the nursing profession. Any nurse is lucky to have Amy as a mentor, friend, and peer, and I hope for the future of nursing that you allow her to help you as TNA President!

The first words that come to my mind when Amy’s name is mentioned is innovator, emerging leader, and passion.  Amy has a huge passion for nursing and is always excited to celebrate and advocate for her colleagues. She sees and understands what the future of nursing can and should be. I had the opportunity to serve with Amy on the DFW Great 100 Nurses Board of Directors - she takes the time to listen to all members and ensures that all viewpoints are taken into consideration. She is constantly working to build diversity and helped to re-align the board to ensure all voices were present at the table. Amy always approaches her work with a positive attitude and is committed to building a better profession. She would make an excellent President of the Texas Nurses Association!  I am honored to have Amy as my friend and nursing colleague.
